souq Ramallah- سوق رام الله

Pre 1948, Palestinian women embroidered/tatreezed things they saw. it would reflect their position, their life, the land that surrounded them, and sometimes their tatreez would tell a story.

Tatreez Mask

In this piece I was reflecting on my trip to the city of Ramallah, specifically the “souq”, market. I was mesmerized by a few tatreez shops, we had nothing like it in Nablus. The work was so beautiful, I swore I’d be back and use my allowance to buy a thobe. Little did I know, I’d never be back. 8 years later, I still think about that thobe
